My clients have included:

Purposeful Public Relations

I seek purposeful, intellectually substantial work that fuels my spirit, excites my passion, and motivates me to tap everything I am to achieve a worthwhile goal. I choose projects, based on how well they mesh with my core values and my desire to leave behind something meaningful, lasting and good. If the work has no higher purpose than to make money, I’m not interested.

Also, I don’t do one-off tasks, like compose and distribute news releases or develop brochure copy, unless it’s part of a larger, comprehensive, strategic communications campaign. That’s because spending money on non-strategic approaches often fails and I like to optimize success.

If you have an important mission to achieve, I’d love to help you.

My Results-Driven Process

I am experienced in crafting targeted, high-impact strategic communications, advocacy and media relations programs for nonprofit, life science organizations, purpose-driven businesses and government agencies. This focus means clients can count on my perspective to provide tested, strategic communications counsel, rooted in my knowledge of these sectors.

Getting to know you

I begin by learning everything about you.
What is your organization’s mission? Why is it important to you personally? What are your primary sources of revenue?

Your audiences

I learn who are your most important internal and external audiences. Where do they look for information? What do they care about? Who are their most important influencers? Uncovering these insights enables me to create communications strategies and tactics tied to specific, measurable objectives.

Your communications

A thorough communications audit (also known as a quality assessment) of all your online and printed materials will help me know if your messaging is effective and what improvements may be needed. I will ensue that your communications speaks with authenticity, clarity and humanity and has a positive effect on your brand.

By the way, I adhere to the same standard when communicating with you. I provide clear, unvarnished communications counsel, not muddled messages couched in clumsy courtesy that you need to decipher.

Get a Remote, Virtual Dream Team

If your project scope and budget allow, I will assemble a remote, virtual dream team of creative professionals. These may include a creative director, graphic and web design specialist, media relations specialist, social marketing specialist, social media specialist, photographer, PSA and/or podcast producer, etc.

Since everyone works remotely, I am not limited by geography, I select the best team members for the job, regardless of where they live. When work is flowing, I ramp up. When it’s slow—or non-existent—everyone pursues their own business projects. Sometimes someone brings me into a project they are working on. It’s very Yin Yang.

Diversity Works

Diversity

As much as possible, I try to assemble a team that represents the wonderful diversity of our human community, including: people of color, LGBQT+, different faith backgrounds and a wide span of ages. I do this, not only because it’s the right thing to do, but because it ensures that our campaigns are informed by professionals with multiple frames of reference and unique cultural insights. I seek project partnerships with woman-and-minority-owned and disadvantaged businesses.

Our Teamwork Model is Unique

This virtual business model also means that Payton Communications doesn’t adhere to traditional agency reporting relationships such as: partner, president, vice president, account supervisor, account coordinator, etc. At most traditional PR and advertising firms, agency principals or partners spend the bulk of their time signing new clients. After a contract is in place they assign the work for those accounts to less experienced, lower paid staff, while they move on to pursue other contracts.

I don’t work that way. I tap senior-level, highly experienced creative professionals whose work I trust. I ensure they are fairly compensated, to account for the typical non-billable expenses of consulting work, such as bookkeeping, tax preparation, legal services and health and business insurance. When I include student interns, our senior team members and I closely mentor and supervise their work. Beyond quality assurance this ensures they learn advanced communications skills that will accelerate their career growth. Our team works collaboratively, respecting one another as colleagues moving towards the same goal. We critique one another’s work until it shines.

Finally, you can be sure that your project team will be as dedicated to your purpose-driven organizations as I am.

Together we will “make your mission our own.”
